Fans celebrate first expansion team to make Stanley Cup Final on social media

NHL.com @NHLdotcom

It's unheard of.

An expansion team making the Stanley Cup Final in its first year of existence? Not likely. No sport has ever seen anything like the Vegas Golden Knights.

The team's unique Twitter account was as jubilant as expected.

Fans celebrated by taking to social media to applaud their team, at least the ones that didn't gather outside T-Mobile Arena.

One of the first in line, right along with MLB all-star Bryce Harper who posted a celebratory picture on his Instagram story, was Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman. The mayor went full cartoon avatar to express her excitement.

The city's official Twitter account backed her up, of course.

Tweet from @Vegas: YEEEEEESSSSS! Congrats to the UNBELIEVABLE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS #MakingHistory #StanleyCupFinals #InauguralSeason #VegasBorn #VGK #KnightUp #GoKnightsGo https://t.co/yKSWRn0zcv

Mr. Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, who rang the siren before Game 4 of the Western Conference Final, got in on the act as well.

Many of the Las Vegas hotels chimed in. They will likely haveto be ready for some incoming fans, either from Tampa or Washington D.C.

The Twitter account for EA Sports NHL, makers of the popular video game, tweeted out a good one. EA's preseason simulation predicted 78 points for the Golden Knights and a Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Final.

Tweet from @EASPORTSNHL: Cant tell if this is real life, or just our Simulation Engine malfunctioning...#VegasBorn

The University of Nevada Las Vegas went as far as to paste a Golden Knights jersey on its mascot, the Runnin' Rebel.

Tweet from @UNLVathletics: Congratulations to the @GoldenKnights on the Western Conference title! Good luck in the next round on your quest for the #StanleyCup! #4morewins #VegasBorn #GoKnightsGo pic.twitter.com/1VcQ83Zbzu

And we all knew we would hear from the team's fluffiest fan, Bark-Andre Furry.

Tweet from @BarkAndreFurry: Ive got tears and slobber all over my jersey, but as is tradition, I will not wash until after the Stanley Cup Finals!!! ~ Bark #VegasBorn #StanleyCup #StanleyCupFinal pic.twitter.com/4vzVWC9sf8

In all the excitement, the Golden Knights seemingly made a rookie mistake when they touched the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after winning it on Sunday.

Tweet from @AlysonLozoff: Another victory walk! @GoldenKnights #vegasborn pic.twitter.com/VgczCPlcOU

But don't worry, Nevada. It really is just a myth and the team has a very good source on that.

Tweet from @GoldenKnights: btw... for all you jinx theorists...Fleury touched the conference championship trophy all three times he won the cup
