To help start Hockey Is For Everyone month, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation hosted a Girls Skating Extravaganza in honor of the Women in Sports Foundation's 31st annual National Girls and Women in Sport Day (NGWSD.com).
In keeping with this year's NGWSD theme of "Expanding Opportunity," all Snider Hockey female students were encouraged to bring friends to the event, where they had the opportunity to register with the Foundation. More than 50 girls and their families came to the Laura Sims Skate House in West Philadelphia on Wednesday for a skating clinic and an off-ice educational activity to learn about Title IX and role models in women's athletics. The activities were led by Snider Hockey coaches as well as current members of the women's hockey teams at Neumann University and West Chester University.
In support of their longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion in hockey, the NHL, the League's Member Clubs and the NHLPA will spotlight a variety of community-related initiatives for Hockey Is For Everyone throughout the month of February.
Hockey Is For Everyone month is conducted in partnership with the You Can Play Project, a nonprofit committed to supporting the LGBTQ community and fighting homophobia in sports.
