Smoskowtiz scores winner as the Steelheads edge the Petes 2-1

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Dylan Smoskowtiz scored the game-winning goal late in the third period as the Mississauga Steelheads downed the visiting Peterborough Petes 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Ontario Hockey League action.

Andres Kopstals scored his first career goal for Mississauga (13-5-1), which has won eight of its last 10 outings.

Steven Trojanovic scored the only goal for Peterborough (4-14-3), which dropped its seventh straight game.

Tyson Teichmann made 27 saves for the win while Michael Giugovaz stopped 28 shots in a losing cause.

The game was scoreless until Kopstals broke the deadlock 3:08 into the third period. He was in the right position to collect a big rebound after Brett Foy fired a slap shot on Giugovaz on a 2-on-1.

Trojanovic tied the game during a power play with 4:03 remaining, however Smoskowitz responded with a wrist shot past Giuogovaz 18 seconds later.

The Steelheads went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Petes finished 1-for-2.
