Smith scores, assists on winner to help the Rebels hold off Kootenay 2-1
NHL.com @NHLdotcomRED DEER, Alta. - Carter Smith opened the scoring and assisted on the game-winner as the Red Deer Rebels edged the Kootenay Ice 2-1 on Friday night in the Western Hockey League.
Willie Coetzee scored on a power play midway through the second period for Red Deer (19-30-1-7).
Drew Czerwonka had the only marker for the Ice (27-23-2-6), who fired 17 shots in the third period but couldn't beat Darcy Kuemper, who made 33 saves for the Rebels.
Kootenay netminder Todd Mathews stopped 15 shots.
