Smashville Scope: January 6

Roman Josi's teammates and coaches would all tell you the same thing: The captain has been Nashville's best and most consistent player this season.
His club-leading 44 points and current 10-game point streak - the latter of which is a career-high - do plenty of talking, and his recent NHL All-Star nod shows the rest of the League has taken notice too. It's no secret the Swiss blueliner is one of the best in the world at what he does, but the numbers are still worth mentioning.
With an assist on Sunday night in Anaheim, Josi, set a Predators franchise record for consecutive games with a point by a defenseman, topping a nine-game mark set by former captain Shea Weber. That apple also helped Josi become just the eighth defenseman in the last 20 years to register a point streak of at least 10 games (the record is 15, set by Shane Gostisbehere four seasons ago).
And while we're at it, here are some other digits to make note of.

Josi reached 43 points (14g-29a) in 40 games, the most a Predators player has ever had through 40 games in franchise history. His 10-game point streak is the longest by a defenseman this season (John Carlson, nine games).
Exactly halfway through the season, Josi is one goal from matching his career high of 15, which he set in 2014-15 and tied in 2018-19. He's the only defenseman this season to lead his team in goals, assists and points, and his performance on Dec. 21 at Boston was his fourth two-goal game of 2019-20, the most among NHL defensemen. He also established a career high for multi-goal games in a season.

Josi skated 33:08 in the Winter Classic, a career high. The total was the fourth-most time on ice by a player this season and the third-most by a player in franchise history (most: Shea Weber 34:14 on March 23, 2014, at Chicago). Josi is fourth in the NHL in average TOI this season (25:34).
Although he's currently on Injured Reserve, Josi's usual defense partner, Ryan Ellis, has factored into the torrid pace, too. Josi and Ellis are one of two teammate defensemen (Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns, San Jose) to have at least 28 points this season. Additionally, they are two of 15 NHL defensemen at the 28-point mark.
They were first and second on the team in scoring through Nashville's first 38 games this season, just the fifth time in NHL history two defensemen sat atop their team in points through 38 games - and first time since Josi and Weber did in 2015-16.
The Predators need all the points they can get with the first 41 games in the rearview, and luckily for them, their leader doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

Last Man In:

Roman Josi was all but guaranteed to represent the Predators at 2020 NHL All-Star Weekend in St. Louis, but there's a chance another member of your favorite team could join him.
For the second-straight season, the NHL will allow fans to select four players from a list of 31 All-Star-caliber players - one from each NHL team - as part of the 2020 NHL All-Star Last Men In presented by adidas, and forward Matt Duchene has been named as the Predators' candidate.
The highest vote-getters by division then will be added to their respective All-Star rosters.

All-Star Ads:

Nashville's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee has been the best team in the league this season, and three of their top performers have gotten the call to the All-Star celebration.
Defenseman Alexandre Carrier, forward Yakov Trenin and goalie Connor Ingram have all been selected to represent the team at the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic to be held on January 26-27 in Ontario, California.
The trio will join Admirals Head Coach Karl Taylor, who was selected as one of four coaches for the event earlier this week by virtue of the Ads having the best record in the Central Division.

Admirals Update:

Speaking of the Ads, things are still going well in Milwaukee.
A back-to-back set in Cleveland to start the new year saw the Admirals collect only one out of a possible four points in the standings, but they're still atop the league with 54 points. Even with two of those three aforementioned All-Stars up with the big club, Milwaukee continues to receive contributions throughout their lineup.
Cole Schneider leads the club with 30 points, Daniel Carr has 27 and Rem Pitlick has 21 points. Carr (13), Anthony Richard (12), Pitlick (11) and Schneider (10) have all been putting the puck in the net as well. Goaltenders Connor Ingram (.929 SV%) and Troy Grosenick (.925 SV%) continue their excellent play in net.
