Situation Room: Turris' OT winner stands after review

Kyle Turris buries the game-winning goal and the Rangers challenge for offside, but after a review, the call on the ice stands

  • 01:45 •

At 6:28 of overtime in the Rangers/Senators game, the Situation Room initiated a review under the terms of a Coach's Challenge to examine whether Kyle Turris was off-side prior to his goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with the linesman, NHL Hockey Operations staff confirmed that Turris had possession and control of the puck as he entered the attacking zone prior to the goal. According to Rule 83.1, "a player actually controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered 'off-side,' provided he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the blue line."

Therefore the original call stands - good goal Ottawa Senators.

NOTE: In the final minute of play in the third period and at any point in Overtime (Regular Season and Playoffs), Hockey Operations will initiate the review of any scenario that would otherwise be subject to a Coach's Challenge.
