Simpson makes 28 saves in WHL debut as Everett blanks Portland 2-0

EVERETT, Wash. - Kent Simpson made 28 saves in his first career Western Hockey League start, propelling the Everett Silvertips to a 2-0 win over the Portland Winter Hawks on Friday night in the WHL.

The 16-year-old Simpson was particularly strong during the second period, when he turned away 17 shots. Mike Alexander scored a power play goal and Shane Harper added an empty netter for Everett (1-1-1-0), which found the win column for the first time this season.

Kurtis Mucha made 27 saves in goal for Portland (1-2-0-0).
