Simon returns for Islanders as 25-game ban over @NHLdotcom

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Islanders forward Chris Simon returned from a 25-game suspension dating to last season to play for New York against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

The NHL punished Simon in March for his two-handed stick attack to the face of Ryan Hollweg of the New York Rangers. He returned 2 minutes, 13 seconds into the game.

Simon has been suspended four other times for violent on-ice acts, and received a three-game ban in 1997 after directing a racial slur toward player Mike Grier, who is black.

The ban was the longest in terms of games missed in NHL history. But Flyers forward Jesse forward Jesse Boulerice was suspended 25 games by the NHL on Friday for striking Vancouver's Ryan Kesler across the face with his stick, the longest single-season ban in league history.
