Sim scores twice as Islanders beat Habs 3-1 in pre-season game @NHLdotcom

MONCTON, N.B. - Jon Sim scored twice in the first period as the New York Islanders beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 in NHL exhibition action Wednesday.

Bill Guerin scored his first goal as an Islander to make it 3-0. Sergei Kostitsyn replied for the Canadiens before a pro-Montreal crowd of nearly 7,000 fans. Sim put the Islanders up 1-0 with a power play goal at 7:29 of the first period. After Richard Park battled gain possession of the puck, Sim stuffed it in on the forehand inside the goal post past Habs goalie Cristobal Huet.

Sim scored his second of the game with 5:20 left in the first period. Marc-Andre Bergeron centred a pass to Sim, who deflected it through the pads of Huet.

Just 1:46 later, Isles captain Guerin made it 3-0.

At 4:43 of the third period, Kostitsyn cut the lead to 3-1 with a wicked wrist shot past Wade Dubielewicz, who replaced Rick DiPietro to start the third period.
