Silvertips keep season alive with 6-4 win over Thunderbirds

KENT, Wash. - Manraj Hayer scored twice and set up one more as the Everett Silvertips defeated the host Seattle Thunderbirds 6-4 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Ryan Harrison and Zach McPhee each had a goal and an assist for the Silvertips (21-40-10), who snapped a three-game losing streak, while Josh Birkholz and Cody Fowlie scored a goal apiece.

Jari Erricson chipped in with three assists.

Connor Honey had two goals and an assist for the Thunderbirds (25-43-2), who lost for the first time in four outings, as Branden Troock and Luke Lockhart each had a goal and an assist.

Kent Simpson made 29 saves for the win while Calvin Pickard stopped 35 shots in defeat.

Everett went 1 for 2 on the power play as Seattle scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

The victory keeps post-season play alive for Everett as they moved two points ahead of Seattle for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference.

The Thunderbirds head to Portland to face the Winterhawks on Sunday and a win would earn them the eighth seed as they have more total victories then Everett.
