set a career high by extending his point streak to 20 games with a first-period assist in Pittsburgh's game against the New York Rangers
on Wednesday night.
Crosby worked a brilliant give-and-go with Evgeni Malkin
, taking a feed in the Rangers' zone and then returning the puck to the Russian star behind the ' defense. Malkin easily beat goaltender Henrik Lundqvist
with 13 seconds left in the period to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
The 20-game streak surpassed Crosby's previous best, a 19-gamer in the early part of the 2007-08 season. Crosby had 30 points during that streak; he now has 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) during his current streak.
Crosby tied Colorado's Paul Stastny
for the second-longest scoring streak since 2005 -- Stastny scored in 20 consecutive games in 2006-07. The longest streak in the last five years belongs to Dany Heatley
, who had at least one point in 22 consecutive games while playing for Ottawa in 2005-06.
