Alex Ovechkin not only
touched the Prince of Wales Trophy
he turned it into a home-decor item.

The Washington Capitals captain celebrated his team's Eastern Conference championship by turning the trophy into a centerpiece on a table in his home after Washington clinched its first trip to the Stanley Cup Final since 1998 on Wednesday.

Ovechkin's wife Nastya shared pictures on her
Instagram page
which included Ovechkin carrying the trophy off the team plane straight to her car at the airport only hours after Washington defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 win in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final in Tampa.
It's become superstition for each conference champion to avoid touching the trophy, but the Cup champion will have held its conference champs trophy for the third straight year. Deryk Engelland, who accepted the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl for the Vegas Golden Knights, touched that trophy after they won the Western Conference, and Sidney Crosby touched the Wales Trophy each of the past two seasons before leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to consecutive championships.
