The San Jose Sharks signed defenseman Paul Martin to a four-year contract on Wednesday, the club announced.
The contract has an average annual value of $4.85 million, according to TSN.
Martin, 34, spent the last five seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had three goals and 20 points in 74 games with the Penguins in 2014-15.
"Paul is versatile, puck-moving veteran who enhances our younger group of talented defensemen," general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He comes from a winning environment, is capable of playing heavy minutes and is accustomed to playing with high-end players. He was a player that we had targeted and this is a place that Paul wanted to come play."
Martin could add a significant veteran presence alongside Brent Burns in San Jose.
In 11 seasons with the New Jersey Devils and Penguins, Martin has 43 goals and 272 points in 697 games. He was selected in the second round (No. 62) in the 2000 NHL Draft by the Devils.
Martin has five goals and 40 points in 85 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
