Sharks working to find home for 'Joe Paw-velski'

SAN JOSE-- The black cat that became a viral sensation for his on-ice foray at SAP Center before Game 1 on Friday will not make a return engagement for Game 2 of the Western Conference Second Round.
The cat wandered onto the ice before warmups in Game 1 and ran in front of the Sharks bench before exiting through an open door where the Sharks players enter the ice surface.
The cat was safely retrieved by a member of the arena staff Saturday and has been named "Joe Paw-velski"

The Sharks did not fall victim to the superstition of bad luck following the sighting of a black cat, winning Game 1 against the Nashville Predators, 5-2. Game 2 is Sunday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
The Sharks are making arrangements to transfer the cat to a local animal shelter, where they said it will have a full health examination and a microchip scan to ensure it does not already have an owner.
If the cat is healthy and does not have an owner, it will likely be made available for adoption, according to the Sharks.
"The amount of interest generated by 'Joe's' appearance and those wishing to adopt him has been overwhelming," said Sharks chief operating officer John Tortora. "We want to make sure the cat is safe and healthy and returned to its rightful owner, in the event it has a microchip. If he is indeed a stray, our goal is to find the best home for him with the support of our local animal shelters. If families are interested in adopting 'Joe' but unsuccessful, we strongly encourage you to consider adopting another animal in need of a good home from one of our terrific local animal shelters."
