Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has activated forward Torrey Mitchell
from injured reserve. In a related move, Steven Zalewski
was reassigned to Worcester.
Mitchell, 24, missed the 2008-09 NHL season due to a broken leg. He played in four games of 2009 Western Conference Quarterfinals versus Anaheim. Mitchell was recently sent to Worcester for conditioning purposes, posting one goal and two assists in five games.
In 82 NHL games with San Jose, Mitchell has posted 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) and 50 penalty minutes. In 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has notched three points (one goal, two assists) and tallied 12 penalty minutes. He was selected as the 2008 Playstation "Sharks Rookie of the Year."
The Greenfield Park, Quebec native was originally selected by San Jose in the fourth round (126th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Zalewski has played in three games for San Jose, making his NHL debut on Oct. 12 vs. Phoenix.
The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound native of Utica, NY native was originally selected by San Jose in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
