Sharks acquire Westgarth from Isles

The New York Islanders have dealt minor-league prospect Brett Westgarth to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for future considerations.

The 28-year-old defenseman, a native of Amherst, Ontario, has 3 goals, 8 points and 68 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League this season. He played a career-high 77 games with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL in 2008-09, notching 2 goals and 9 points.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound blue liner played four seasons at Princeton University for 2002-03 through 2006-07, appearing in 114 games while totaling 4 goals and 20 assists.
