SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -The San Jose Sharks have bolstered their defense by acquiring Niclas Wallin in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.
San Jose also acquired a fifth-round pick and sent a second rounder to Carolina to complete Sunday's deal.
The Sharks had been shuttling defensemen back and forth from Worcester of the AHL for much of the season. General manager Doug Wilson says he hopes Wallin's playoff experience from winning the Stanley Cup in 2006 with Carolina will benefit the Sharks.
San Jose leads the Western Conference with 85 points. The Sharks won the Presidents' Trophy for the best regular-season record in the league a year ago before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Anaheim.
