Shalla opens scoring then scores SO winner as Spirit defeat Storm @NHL

GUELPH, Ont. - Josh Shalla opened the scoring, then capped it with the shootout winner, as the Saginaw Spirit beat the Guelph Storm 4-3 Friday in the Ontario Hockey League opener for both teams.

Barry Sanderson added two goals for the Spirit (1-0-0).

Taylor Beck and Matt Kennedy each had a goal and two assists for Guelph (0-0-1). Mathew Sisca added a goal and an assist.

Anthony Peters made 40 saves in regulation for Saginaw and stopped all three Guelph shooters in the shootout.

Matt Hoyle stopped 28 shots for the Storm.
