SUDBURY, Ont. - Michael Sgarbossa scored the shootout winner as the Sudbury Wolves ended their five-game winless streak Friday with a 5-4 win against the Niagara IceDogs in Ontario Hockey League play.
Matthew Campagna also scored in the shootout for the Wolves.
Alex Friesen had the only shootout goal for the IceDogs
Kristoff Kontos, Nathan Pancel, McFadden and Joshua Leivo, who also added two assists, scored in regulation for the Wolves (1-4-1).
Freddie Hamilton, Dougie Hamilton and Friesen scored for the IceDogs (2-3-1), while David Pacan added a short-handed goal.
Johan Mattsson stopped 33 of 37 shots in his Sudbury debut, while Niagara's Jaroslav Pavelka allowed four goals on 34 shots.
Kontos opened the scoring for the Wolves at 3:40 in the first period. McFadden scored Sudbury's second goal in as many shots at 5:41 on a five-on-three power play.
The IceDogs replied Pacan's short-handed goal at 5:54 before Pancel scored at 19:45 to give the Wolves a 3-1 lead after the first.
Leivo added a power-play goal at 1:04 in the third period to give Sudbury a 4-1 lead, but Niagara battled back.
Freddie Hamilton scored at 5:11 before Friesen pulled Niagara within one at 8:46. The IceDogs tied it up at 19:15 on a goal by Dougie Hamilton and erased the three-goal deficit.
Sudbury finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while Niagara wound up 2-for-9.
