VANCOUVER - Tyson Sexsmith made only 23 saves for his eighth shutout of the season as the Vancouver Giants pounded the Edmonton Oil Kings 7-0 in WHL action Wednesday night.

Spencer Machacek had two goals and two assists, while Jonathan Blum and Michel Repik each added a goal and two assists as the Giants (41-13-2-5) overwhelmed the expansion Oil Kings (19-31-4-7) in the first-ever meeting between the teams. Vancouver scored on its first three power-play chances and outshot Edmonton 54-23 in the game.

Nine seconds into their first man advantage of the game, the WHL's top power play opened the scoring. Brent Regner threw the puck towards the net and though Repik couldn't pot the rebound, the puck squirted out to Machacek who put it in the open net at 12:07.

It took the Giants just nine seconds to capitalize on their second man-advantage opportunity. Repik put the puck down low to Machacek and he fed the puck in front to a streaking Blum for his 13th just 48 seconds after the first goal.

Nunn scored the goal that chased goalie Dalyn Fleete from the crease at just 14:33 of the first. Nunn blasted down the right wing and wristed a bad angle shot over Fleete's shoulder. Craig Schira drew an assist on Nunn's seventh of the year.

Early in the second period Machacek got his second of the game - also on the power play. . After Regner threw a puck on net Machacek took about three whacks at the puck before it finally beat Alex Archibald at 58 seconds, with Blum also assisting.

Bouma made it 5-0 with a shot that Archibald probably would want back. Taking a pass down the left wing Bouma snapped a shot that beat the Oil King netminder under his arm at 5:26 with Mitch Czibere and Blum assisting.

Casey Pierro-Zabotel took a giveaway from Edmonton and centred it to Nunn in the slot, making it 6-0 at 9:52.

Repik got in on the goal scoring with under three minutes to go. After Mario Bliznak was unable to bury a pass from Machacek in front of the net Repik came in, spun around and backhanded the puck just inside the post for his 23rd of the season.
