REGINA - Canada will play two exhibition games in Regina plus another in Calgary in preparation for the upcoming world junior hockey championship in Saskatchewan.

A nine game pre-competition schedule was announced Tuesday, with Canada set to play Sweden in Regina on Dec. 20, Finland on Dec. 22 in Calgary, and the Czech Republic back in Regina on Dec. 23.

Six other games featuring other teams in the tournament will be hosted by communities across Saskatchewan. They include Humboldt, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Swift Current, Unity and Weyburn.

"It's exciting that cities and towns throughout the hockey-mad province of Saskatchewan will get the chance to see the rising stars of the game," Scott Smith, Hockey Canada's chief operating officer, said in a release. "We expect great crowds at each of these games."

Canada will play out of Saskatoon and Regina when it goes for a sixth straight gold medal at the world junior championship Dec. 26-Jan. 5.
