Matthews scored his second of the preseason 2:42 into the second period to tie it 1-1, after Kyle Okposo made it 1-0 with a power-play goal 4:17 into the first period.
Jeff Skinner scored his first goal since being traded to the Sabres by the Carolina Hurricanes, tying it 2-2 with 13 seconds left in the second period. Jeremy Bracco gave Toronto a 2-1 lead at 5:37.
Rosen scored a power-play goal at 10:32 of the third period.
Calvin Pickard did not allow a goal on 14 shots playing the third period for Toronto in relief of Frederik Andersen, who made 19 saves.
Carter Hutton made 28 saves for Buffalo.

Erik Brannstrom scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored a shorthanded goal for Vegas with 3:32 remaining in the third period to tie it 4-4.
Logan Couture scored a shorthanded goal with 58 seconds left in the second period to give San Jose a 4-2 lead. Oscar Lindberg got Vegas within 4-3 at 5:05 of the third with his second of the game.
New San Jose defenseman Erik Karlsson, who was not in the lineup, skated onto the ice to reveal the Sharks' new third jersey early in the first period.
Brent Burns, Timo Meier and Barclay Goodrow scored consecutive goals to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead, after Max Pacioretty scored for the Golden Knights 43 seconds into the game.
Martin Jones made 27 saves for San Jose. Maxim Lagace made 20 for Vegas.

Canadiens rally to defeat Senators

Paul Byron and Tomas Tatar scored in the first 1:41 of the third period to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators at Bell Center.
Byron tied the game 2-2 at 1:18 before Tatar gave Montreal the lead with his first goal for the Canadiens since being involved in the trade that sent Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Brady Tkachuk scored his first professional goal 1:15 into the first period to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. Cody Ceci made it 2-0 with 2:19 left in the second period, before Nikita Scherbak got the Canadiens within 2-1 with 1:35 remaining.
Carey Price made 16 saves for Montreal. Craig Anderson made 29 saves for Ottawa.

Czarnik hat trick carries Flames past Canucks

Austin Czarnik scored a hat trick for the Calgary Flames in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Czarnik scored at 6:20 and 17:07 of the first period, and 9:18 into the second period to help Calgary take a 4-1 lead.
Canucks rookie forward Elias Pettersson scored his first goal of the preseason at 14:12 of the first to tie it 1-1. Mikael Backlund scored a shorthanded goal to give the Flames a 3-1 lead at 6:00 of the second.
Brandon Sutter scored a power-play goal at 9:31 of the third period to make it 4-2. Mark Jankowski finished the scoring with 17 seconds left.
Jon Gilles (13 saves) and David Rittich (14) each allowed one goal for Calgary. Thatcher Demko made 17 saves for Vancouver.

Coyle, Stalock pace Wild past Avalanche

Charlie Coyle scored a hat trick, and Alex Stalock made 16 saves to help the Minnesota Wild defeat the Colorado Avalanche 7-0 at Xcel Energy Center.
Coyle scored two goals in the second period when the Wild scored three times to take a 4-0 lead.
Mikko Koivu made it 5-0 28 seconds into the third period, and Coyle scored his third at 2:15 for a 6-0 lead. Zach Parise's power-play goal at 13:09 increased Minnesota's advantage to 7-0.
The Wild took a 1-0 lead on Jason Zucker's goal 8:32 into the first period, and Matt Read made it 2-0 at 3:18 of the second.
Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves for the Avalanche.

Svechnikov, Red Wings defeat Bruins in overtime

Evgeny Svechnikov scored 1:42 into overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 win against the Boston Bruins at Little Caesars Arena.
Boston trailed 3-1 in the third period, but Daniel Winnik made it 3-2 at 4:34 and Axel Andersson tied it 3-3 with a power-play goal at 14:47.
Detroit took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Filip Zadina 2:32 into the first period. Cameron Hughes tied it at 1-1 at 7:00 before Dennis Cholowski put the Red Wings ahead 2-1 at 17:03.
Vili Saarijarvi made it 3-1 39 seconds into the third period.
Jimmy Howard made 23 saves for the Red Wings, and Zane McIntyre made 21 for the Bruins.

Yan paces Lightning past Predators

Dennis Yan broke a tie with 6:59 remaining in the third period for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 5-2 win against the Nashville Predators at Amalie Arena.
Yan's goal gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead. Carter Verhaeghe (18:29 for a 4-2 lead) and Cedric Paquette (18:52 to make it 5-2) each scored an empty-net goal.
Calle Jarnkrok gave the Predators a 1-0 lead 3:09 into the first period, but J.T. Miller tied it 1-1 at 4:18 of the second period. Alexander Volkov gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead at 10:15 before Ryan Ellis scored with one second remaining to tie it 2-2.
Connor Ingram played made 22 saves for the Lightning. Juuse Saros made 18 saves on 21 shots for the Predators.

Beauvillier, Bailey lead Islanders past Rangers

Anthony Beauvillier scored two goals, and Josh Bailey had a goal and two assists for the New York Islanders in a 5-2 win against the New York Rangers at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Jordan Eberle, Mathew Barzal and Parker Wotherspoon each had two assists for the Islanders. Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk had two assists playing his first game since Jan. 18 having recovered from a knee injury.
Cody McLeod gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead 6:41 into the first period. Beauvillier tied it 1-1 at 17:55.
Bailey made it 2-1 46 seconds into the second period, and Anders Lee increased the lead to 3-1 at 12:46, each on the power play. Beauvillier scored at 18:26 for a 4-1 lead, and Ryan Spooner's power-play goal at 19:59 brought the Rangers within 4-2.
Ryan Pulock made it 5-2 at 8:05 of the third period.
Thomas Greiss made 27 saves for the Islanders. Alexandar Georgiev started for the Rangers and made 17 saves on 20 shots. Dustin Tokarski relieved and made 10 saves on 12 shots.

Cullen helps Penguins past Blue Jackets

Matt Cullen had two goals and an assist for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 7-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena.
Cullen scored at 9:19 of the first period to make it 2-0, and again at 15:43 of the third period to extend the lead to 7-3.
Kris Letang scored his first goal of the preseason to make it 3-0 at 10:08 of the second period, and Adam Johnson made it 4-0 at 13:00.
Oliver Bjorkstrand cut it to 4-1 at 17:06 of the second period before Zach Trotman made it 5-1 at 1:43 of the third period. Bjorkstrand scored his second on the power play at 4:57 to make it 5-2, and completed the hat trick with a goal at 10:15 to make it 5-3.
Juuso Riikola and Garrett Wilson scored, Sidney Crosby had two assists, and Matt Murray made 30 saves for the Penguins.
Joonas Korpisalo started and made 26 saves in two periods for the Blue Jackets. He was replaced at the start of the third period by J-F Berube, who allowed three goals on eight shots.

MacDonald, Panthers defeat Stars in overtime

Jacob MacDonald scored 2:30 into overtime to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win against the Dallas Stars at BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Derek MacKenzie tied it 3-3 for Florida at 9:23 of the third period.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Henrik Borgstrom 1:11 into the second period. Denis Gurianov tied it 1-1 43 seconds later.
Alexander Petrovic gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead at 2:43. Devin Shore tied it 2-2 with a power-play goal at 6:00, and Gemel Smith put the Stars ahead 3-2 at 17:12.

Coyotes score six against Ducks

Antti Raanta and Adin Hill combined to make 39 saves, and Lawson Crouse scored twice for the Arizona Coyotes in a 6-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Gila River Arena.
Raanta made 27 saves playing the first two periods. Hill made 12 in relief.
Crouse scored in the second and third period. Jordan Oesterle, Derek Stepan, Conor Garland and Kevin Klima scored, and Clayton Keller and Oliver Ekman-Larsson each had two assists.
Jakob Silfverberg scored with 3:45 remaining in the third period, and Ryan Miller made 31 saves for Anaheim.
