Tristan Jarry made 30 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 2-0 preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. 

Chris Kunitz scored two third-period goals for Pittsburgh. Defenseman Trevor Daley had an assist playing 23:53 in his first game since he fractured his ankle during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

Scott Darling made 33 saves for Chicago.


Canucks top Oilers in Connor McDavid preseason debut

Defenseman Troy Stecher had a goal and two assists to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena. 

Brendan Gaunce, Joseph Labate, Anton Rodin and Erik Gudbranson also scored for Vancouver. 

Oilers center Connor McDavid had three shots on goal and was minus-1 in 23:05 of ice time in his first preseason game since returning from the World Cup of Hockey 2016. He did not score but had three assists in three games for Team North America at the tournament.

Drake Caggiula scored two goals in the first period for Edmonton, and Griffin Reinhart scored in the second.

Avalanche rally for win against Stars

The Colorado Avalanche scored three times in the third period of a 4-2 win against the Dallas Stars. 

Francois Beauchemin, Ben Smith and Patrick Wiercioch scored in the period for Colorado, which entered it trailing 2-1. Joe Whitney gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead 8:58 into the first period. 

Radek Faksa, who was returning to play after sustaining a concussion during the World Cup of Hockey 2016, scored seven seconds into the second period, and at 3:30, for Dallas. 

Stars goalie Antti Niemi made 14 saves on 15 shots in two periods. Calvin Pickard made 22 saves playing two periods for the Avalanche.

Red Wings ride early lead to win

The Detroit Red Wings scored the first four goals in a 5-1 win against the Boston Bruins.

Kyle Criscuolo and Steve Ott scored in the first period, and Luke Glendening and Anthony Mantha scored to give Detroit a 4-0 lead 12:54 into the second. Drew Miller scored a third-period goal, and Jared Coreau made 34 saves. 

Austin Czarnik scored for Boston, and Malcolm Subban allowed four goals on 34 shots in the first two periods.


Flyers shut out Devils

Anthony Stolarz and Alex Lyon combined on the shutout for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 2-0 win against the New Jersey Devils.

Travis Konecny had a goal and an assist, and Michael Raffl scored for Philadelphia. 

The game was played at Lehigh Valley.

Nic Dowd scores two goals in Kings win

Forward Nic Dowd scored two goals to help the Los Angeles Kings to a 6-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Staples Center. 

Devin Setoguchi, Justin Auger, Dustin Brown and Andy Andreoff also scored for Los Angeles. 

Anaheim defenseman Brandon Montour scored at 8:04 of the third period to make it 4-1. 

The Kings outshot the Ducks 48-27. Los Angeles starting goalie Peter Budaj made saves on all 14 shots he faced in 30:31; Thomas McCollum allowed one goal on 13 shots in relief.
