OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have signed veteran forward Randy Robitaille to a US$625,000, one-year contract.
Released from his Russian team, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, the Ottawa native must first clear NHL waivers by noon ET Wednesday before officially joining the Senators.
"He's a veteran hockey player and a local guy," Sens GM Bryan Murray said Tuesday. "We know that he can play in this league and provide depth. One of the reasons (for signing him), I was concerned about anyway was if anything happened injury-wise . . . it provides another NHL (calibre) player for us."
In 14 games with the Lokomotiv this season, Robitaille had three goals and six assists. The 32-year-old has 227 points (74-153) and 183 penalty minutes in 463 career games with the Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Minnesota Wild, Atlanta Thrashers and Philadelphia Flyers.
