Ales Hemsky will test the free-agent market after rejecting the Ottawa Senators' three-year, $10 million contract offer, TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Monday.
The Senators acquired the 30-year-old right wing from the Edmonton Oilers at the 2014 NHL Trade Deadline. Hemsky, who becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1, had 17 points (four goals) in 20 games with Ottawa.
The Oilers' first-round pick at the 2001 NHL Draft (No. 13), Hemsky had played his entire career in Edmonton before the March 5 trade. He scored 142 goals and had 335 assists in 652 games in 11 seasons with Edmonton; he had a career-high 77 points in 2005-06.
The Senators sent the Oilers a fifth-round pick at this year's draft and a third-round pick in 2015 for Hemsky.
