Senators D Gonchar late scratch against Sabres @NHLdotcom

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Ottawa Senators defenseman Sergei Gonchar was a late scratch for the team's game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

Gonchar took the pregame warmup before being left out of the lineup. The Senators had no immediate update on the 17-year NHL veteran's status.

Defenseman Brian Lee was pushed into action after coach Paul MacLean indicated earlier in the day that Lee was going to sit.

For Buffalo, center Nathan Gerbe returned after missing 10 games with a concussion. Defenseman T.J. Brennan also played after being called up earlier in the day from AHL Rochester. Brennan was called up after veteran Christian Ehrhoff sustained what the Sabres are calling an upper-body injury in a 3-1 loss at Washington on Friday.
