Senators call news conference, expected to announce Alfredsson extension @NHLdotcom

SUNRISE, Fla. - The Ottawa Senators have called an afternoon news conference where they are expected to announce that captain Daniel Alfredsson has signed a contract extension.

The Ottawa Sun is reporting that the four-year deal is worth US$22 million. The news conference is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., where the Senators will face the Panthers later in the evening.

Alfredsson's current deal would have expired at the end of this season if he appeared in 70 games or put up 70 points.

The 35-year-old has spent his entire career with the Senators.

He has 334 goals and 856 points in 861 career regular-season games with the team.
