Semin signs 1-year, $6.7M extension with Capitals @NHL

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Alexander Semin has signed a one-year, $6.7 million contract extension with the Washington Capitals.

The 26-year-old Russian right wing will return for a seventh season with the Capitals, who made him a first-round pick in the 2002 draft.

Semin scored a career-high 40 goals last season, but his production has waned this season as part of a team-wide scoring slump.

He has 18 goals and 17 assists and hasn't scored since Nov. 28 against Carolina. He hasn't played since Jan. 8 because of a thigh injury.

Semin is tied for the league lead with three hat tricks, all coming in 35-day span from Oct. 23 to Nov. 26

Semin's 166 career goals rank 11th in Capitals history.
