For the Loyola Ramblers, breaking a championship drought, that began during the Clinton administration, last season meant there was only one way to move forward in 2019: Produce one heck of an encore.

Loyola punched their ticket back to the United Center with a 4-2 win over the Providence Celtics on Monday night in Bensenville. The win sets up a title defense against top-seeded New Trier, as the North Shore rivals face off in the state championship game.

The Blackhawks will host the 2019 Illinois State High School Hockey Championships, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers, at the United Center on Friday, March 22. Fans can purchase tickets hereto watch Loyola battle New Trier in the second game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Boys' State Championship tilt will be broadcast in high-definition on NBC Sports Chicago and streamed live on NBCSportsChicago.com.
The Ramblers road to the United Center included wins over Hinsdale Central, St. Rita and Providence in the semifinals on Monday night. After beating the Celtics 4-0 earlier in the season, Loyola jumped out to a 2-0 lead before two quick Providence goals tied things up in the second period.
But Loyola's ability to close out games proved decisive, as the Ramblers found the game-winner and an insurance goal to keep their title defense alive.
Loyola and New Trier's championship clash at the United Center will be their first meeting in the state tournament since 2016, a 2-1 Trevians win in the semifinals. One of the two schools has won the state title every year since that meeting in Bensenville three seasons ago.
