NEW YORK - Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin was named the NHL's first star of the week Monday.
Sedin had two goals and three assists in two games as the Canucks opened the season by defeating the division rival Calgary Flames twice.
Left-winger David Booth of the Florida Panthers was named the second star after registering three goals and an assist in two game.
Veteran goaltender Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils earned the third star. Brodeur won both of his starts, posting a 0.97 goals-against average and .951 save percentage as the Devils opened the season with a pair of 2-1 victories, one coming in overtime.
The wins boosted Brodeur's career total to 540, moving him to within 11 of matching Patrick Roy's NHL record.
