TORONTO - Seattle Thunderbirds forward Jim O'Brien has been named Canadian Hockey League player of the week.
O'Brien had two goals and six assists in three games, all Seattle wins. The 19-year-old Minnesota native was a first-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in 2007.
Michael Frolik of the Rimouski Oceanic was the QMJHL nominee after collecting seven points (2-5) in three games, while goalie Kyle Gajewski of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds earned the OHL nod.
Gajewski also earned CHL goalie of the week honours after posting a 2-0-0 record along with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .983 save percentage in two games.
Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants was the WHL nominee after going 2-0-0-1 with a 0.97 GAA and Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats was the QMJHL nominee after also posting a 2-0-0-1 mark, with a 1.93 GAA.
