Sea Dogs tie club record with 10th straight home win, 4-2 over Voltigeurs

After knocking the Drummondville Voltigeurs out of first place in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Saint John Sea Dogs earned a little breathing room on Friday night.

Mike Hoffman scored twice as the Sea Dogs tied a club record with their 10th straight home victory, downing Drummondville 4-2.

Saint John (24-4-1) is on a 16-game winning streak and leads the second-place Voltigeurs by four points. The Sea Dogs have outscored their opponents 77-31 during the streak, which includes a 4-3 shootout victory in Drummondville last Friday.

The Voltigeurs (20-6-2) looked poised to snap Saint John's streak after taking a 2-1 lead during a strong second period, but Hoffman tied the score on a power play late in the second.

Hoffman scored his second of the game with less than two minutes to go in the third period and Mike Thomas added an empty-netter to ensure the Sea Dogs' victory.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Acadie-Bathurst 3 Cape Breton 0; P.E.I. 6 Lewiston 4; Rouyn-Noranda 9 Baie-Comeau 4; Rimouski 7 Chicoutimi 4; and Montreal 5 Gatineau 2.

At Saint John, N.B., Nicholas Pard also scored for the Sea Dogs, who haven't lost since Oct. 13.

Ryan McKiernan and Gabriel Dumont replied for Drummondville, which lost its second in a row.

Marc-Antoine Gelinas made 29 saves for Saint John, while Voltigeurs netminder Frederic Piche stopped 17 shots.

Titan 3 Screaming Eagles 0

At Sydney, N.S., Guillaume Nadeau stopped 25 shots as Acadie-Bathurst blanked the Screaming Eagles.

Eric Faille, Vincent Arseneau and Jonathan Lessard scored for the Titan (11-14-3).

Christopher Holden made 23 saves for Cape Breton (15-10-5).

Rocket 6 Maineiacs 4

At Lewiston, Maine, Samson Mahbod had a goal and two assists as P.E.I. beat the Maineiacs.

Joel Champagne, Chris Doyle and Jarrad Struthers each had a goal and an assist for the Rocket (15-9-3), while Eric Bouchard and Benjamin Casavant also scored.

Stefan Fournier, Francis Beauvillier, Etienne Brodeur and Pierre-Olivier Morin replied for Lewiston (10-15-1), which is on an eight-game losing skid.

Huskies 9 Drakkar 4

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Gabriel Levesque and Jean-Sebastien Berube both scored twice as the Huskies hammered Baie-Comeau.

Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Philippe Cornet, Jeff Desjardins, Nicolas Deslauriers and Alexandre Mallet also scored for Rouyn-Noranda (16-12-3).

Maxime Renaud had a hat trick and Marc-Olivier Mimar added a goal for the Drakkar (7-17-3).

Oceanic 7 Sagueneens 4

At Rimouski, Que., Felix Lefrancois scored twice and added an assist as the Oceanic defeated Chicoutimi.

Jakub Culek had a goal and three assists for Rimouski (13-12-3), while Patrice Cormier, Alex Emond, Jordan Caron and Petr Straka also scored.

Jacob Lagace had a hat trick and Michael Stinziani scored short-handed for the Sagueneens (11-10-6).

Junior 5 Olympiques 2

At Montreal, Nicolas Chouinard scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period as the Junior beat Gatineau.

Matthew Brenton, Chris Thorne, Trevor Parkes and Guillaume Asselin also scored for Montreal (13-14-1).

Alexandre Touchette and Hubert Labrie replied for the Olympiques (15-10-1).
