Schira and Zabotel have four point nights as the Giants beat the Rockets @NHLdotcom

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Giants got four-point nights from Craig Schira and Casey Pierro-Zabotel en-route to a 5-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets at Pacific Coliseum in Western Hockey League action Saturday.

Schira and Pierro-Zabotel both had two power play markers and two assists leading the home team to a victory. Garry Nunn, coming off a two-goal game of his own, added a goal and an assist.

Kelowna (20-13-2-4) opened the scoring however with the first of two goals from Cody Almond.

Almond scored a power play marker just two minutes into the game, potting a loose puck from Brady Leavold and Tyler Myers passes.

Pierro-Zabotel netted his sixth of the season to tie the game, with Spencer Machacek and Schira assisting on the power play marker.

Schira then added a man-advantage goal of his own, with Nunn and James Wright assisting at 17:13.

The Giants (26-7-1-3) took a 3-1 lead when Nunn scored his third goal in two games at 11:05 of the second. Assisting were Pierro-Zabotel and Mitch Spooner, the 15-year-old's first point in the WHL, in his his second game.

Kelowna struck back when after Milan Kytnar was robbed by goalie Tyson Sexsmith, Colin Long threw the rebound into the low slot to Almond, who ripped it past the Vancouver goalie for his second of the night.

However, the Rockets' Matthew Brusciano took a tripping minor in the final two minutes and that cost the visitors. Nunn sent a back-door pass to Schira, charging towards the net, to restore Vancouver's two-goal cushion. Pierro-Zabotel also assisted on the power play goal in the final minute of the second period.

After a couple fights in the third, the Vancouver Giants put an exclamation mark on the game with a fourth power play goal. Pierro-Zabotel deflected a shot by Mike Berube, with Schira drawing the second assist at 18:56.
