TORONTO - Highly touted defenceman
will start the season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
General manager Cliff Fletcher confirmed the decision Monday, adding that the NHL team has also put forward Mark Bell on waivers.
The remainder of their roster decisions will be made Tuesday.
Schenn was selected with the fifth overall pick at this year's NHL entry draft. The 18-year-old Saskatoon native was a standout at training camp.
Bell, a 28-year-old native of St. Paul's, Ont., had 10 points (4-6) in 35 games for the Leafs last season.
He missed over two months of action while recovering from a broken orbital bone and also had to serve a 15-game suspension for a drunk-driving conviction.
Bell has 182 points (87-95) in 445 career NHL regular-season games.
