VICTORIA - Chase Schaber scored in overtime as the Kamloops Blazers beat the Victoria Royals 6-5 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.
Centre Matt Needham had a goal and an assist for the Blazers (18-7-1), while Colin Smith, Landon Cross, Chase Souto and Tim Bozon also scored.
Kevin Sundher had two goals and Logan Nelson added four assists for the Royals (11-15-2) in a losing cause. Hayden Rintoul, Steven Hodges and Zane Jones had the other Victoria goals.
Smith opened the scoring for Kamloops early with his team-leading 14th goal of the season.
Needham made it a two-goal lead when he was left alone in front of the Royals' net.
Rintoul cut the lead to one with a blast from the left point, but Blazer defenceman Cross wristed one past Royals goaltender Keith Hamilton for his first WHL goal to end the period 3-1.
Sundher tied the game early in the second with two quick goals, his 17th and 18th of the season. He scored his first on a feed from behind the net by Nelson, the other a rush down the middle that ended in his wrist shot beating Blazers goaltender Cole Cheveldave.
Royals centre Hodges put Victoria up by one, but the Blazers bounced back 32 seconds later when Souto scored on a partial breakaway, tying the game at 4-4.
Bozon scored on a giveaway just over 30 seconds into the third period.
Jones tied the game again on a short-handed rush around the Blazers' defence.
Cheveldave made 25 saves in the win, while Hamilton let in six goals on 30 shots.
