TORONTO - Sarnia Sting forward Justin DiBenedetto was named Ontario Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.
DiBenedetto earned weekly honours after recording five goals, four assists and a plus-three rating in three games for the Sting. The 20-year-old native of Vaughan, Ont., set a career high with five goals and seven points in a 7-2 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday.
The fifth-year star, a sixth-round pick (175th overall) of the New York Islanders in last June's NHL draft, is tied for sixth in OHL scoring with 12 points (six goals, six assists) in five games.
Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack (five goals, two assists in three games) and Brandon Mashinter of the Kitchener Rangers (four goals, one assist in two games) were the other finalists.
Hershey Bears F Keith Aucoin named AHL player of the week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Hershey Bears centre Keith Aucoin was named American Hockey League player of the week Tuesday.
Aucoin recorded two goals and five assists with a plus-four rating in three games to open the season, highlighted by a five-point performance in Hershey's season-opening 8-4 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Other nominees for the award included Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Mark Denis, Manitoba Moose right-winger Michel Ouellet and Toronto Marlies netminder Justin Pogge.
