Marc-Edouard Vlasic placed on IR by Sharks

Defenseman hit in face by puck against Flyers on Thursday @NHLdotcom

San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Vlasic was hit in the face by a puck with 30 seconds remaining in the third period of a 2-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. He did not play in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

The 29-year-old is second on the Sharks in average ice time per game (21:06) behind defenseman Brent Burns (24:36). He has three goals and six assists in 35 games.

The Sharks recalled defenseman Mirco Mueller from the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League. He has eight assists in 25 AHL games this season, and a goal and three assists in 50 NHL games the past two seasons.
