Svechnikov also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, and the deciding shootout goal in a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. He has scored 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in his past eight games.
"He's a tremendous athlete, person, player … everything," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "We're excited with him. Is he going to keep getting better? Yeah. It's hard to believe, but I think he can still get better."
Vincent Trocheck scored and Frederik Andersen made 26 saves for the Hurricanes (31-9-2), who won their fourth straight (each by one goal) and are 7-1-0 in their past eight.
"Our record speaks for itself, and our record is that good because our goaltending has won us a bunch of games where we weren't that great, where the other team was better," Brind'Amour said. "We've got a good team, but I think our goaltending has been a difference-maker."
Rudolfs Balcers scored for the Sharks (22-20-3), who are 1-3-1 in their past five. James Reimer made 27 saves after making 44 in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
"They're a good team, obviously, but we did a good job generating offense," San Jose coach Bob Boughner said. "We had more chances than they did today. We just couldn't find a way to solve Andersen early enough. It was a pretty gusty effort on our part."
Trocheck gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 4:36 of the first period on a wrist shot from the slot after Ian Cole flipped the puck ahead to Trocheck in the neutral zone.
Balcers tied the game 1-1 at 3:36 of the third period when he collected a rebound in the slot and scored under Andersen's blocker.
"Tonight's disappointing," Sharks forward Andrew Cogliano said. "[If] you get it to overtime, you maybe get two points out of that game. I don't know what else we could have done differently. I thought we played a really hard game. Unfortunately, they got the last goal right before the end."
