Peter Sakaris scored twice as the Shawinigan Cataractes earned a key win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Sakaris had a goal to end the second period and then scored 26 seconds into the third as the Cataractes dumped the Sea Dogs 4-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Thursday.
Saint John (31-13-2) had the best record in the QMJHL until Shawinigan's (30-10-4) win helped them tie in points at 64.
The Sea Dogs maintain their edge in the standings because they have more wins than the Cataractes. Shawinigan, however, has two games in hand.
The Cataractes have won four games in a row.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Halifax 6 Drummondville 2; Blainville-Boisbriand 7 Baie-Comeau 6 and Victoriaville 6 Quebec 5.
At Saint John, N.B., captain Michael Bournival had a goal and two assists for Shawinigan, while Michael Chaput added a single.
Charles Coyle was the lone scorer for the Sea Dogs.

At Halifax, Alexandre Grenier and Brent Andrews both scored twice and added an assist as the Mooseheads (25-13-4) routed Drummondville (17-23-5).

At Boisbriand, Que., Samuel Hodhod had a hat trick and an assist as the Armada (23-17-3) edged Baie-Comeau (20-17-4).

At Quebec City, Jeremie Blain scored twice to lead Victoriaville (27-15-2) past the Remparts (29-9-5).
