O'Reilly rocks skate guards with wheels between locker room, practice

Forward brings back unique equipment for Sabres session Wednesday @NHLdotcom

Ryan O'Reilly found the coolest way to get from the locker room to the ice for practice.

The Buffalo Sabres forward reintroduced his skate guards with wheels that allow him to skate to the ice.

Tweet from @JoeYerdon: Heres Ryan OReilly with his skate guard roller skates. Said a few other guys have ordered some too. I smell a future music video.

The skate guards, which (link) O'Reilly initially sported last season, slip under his skates like a usual guard, then snap into place at the skate heel. The guards allow him to tie his skate laces before he is in full gear and move quickly between the Sabres home locker room inside KeyBank Center and their adjacent practice rink at HarborCenter.

"I remember seeing them like a few years ago. I saw a kid flying on them at like a tournament or something, and I was like 'I have to get these,' " O'Reilly said. "Since we're always dressing in our room [at KeyBank Center] and coming over to [HarborCenter], it makes things a lot easier."

O'Reilly has started a trend, and it won't be long before the Sabres have a full roster of players skating around.

"We got a bunch more pairs ordered for the boys," O'Reilly said. "Hopefully we'll have our own little roller disco team."
