Sabres' Myers feels good; Stewart's season likely over

by Joe Yerdon /

BUFFALO -- Defenseman Tyler Myers will be ready to play when the Buffalo Sabres host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Myers twisted his ankle late in the second period Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks in a board battle with forward Brandon Bollig. Though Myers went off the ice at the time and returned to play in the third period, he missed practice Monday.

"I'll be ready to go [Tuesday], no problem," Myers said. "I got tangled up with the heel of the guy in front of me. It ended up giving me a little bit of a twist. Luckily it wasn't serious and I'm feeling real good today."

Sabres coach Ted Nolan didn't have the same kind of news regarding forward Chris Stewart, who was injured against the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 6 after a collision with goalie Anders Lindback.

"Stewart doesn't look very good right now," Nolan said. "There's only about five weeks left in the year [and] I think his injury is about 4-5 weeks. I'm quite sure we probably won't see him the rest of the year."

Stewart made his Sabres debut against the Lightning and played 16:40 with no points and four penalty minutes.

"He's almost everything this town needs," Nolan said. "You like big, aggressive guys. You could even see Marcus Foligno's game lifting up that game playing with him. Sometimes you learn through coaching but sometimes you learn through peers. What he brought to our team was everything we were looking for. It was unfortunate. There's always down the road so we look forward to that."

The Sabres held an optional skate and Michal Neuvirth was the lone goalie on the ice. Expect Jhonas Enroth to get the start against Nashville.

The Predators did not skate Tuesday following their 4-3 overtime win against the Ottawa Senators on Monday. Pekka Rinne won that game, which means it's likely Carter Hutton gets the start against the Sabres.

Here are the projected lineups for the Predators and Sabres:
