Sabres LW Vanek hurts left foot against Bruins @NHLdotcom

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Sabres leading scorer Thomas Vanek has been helped to the locker room after hurting his left foot during the first period of Game 2 of Buffalo's playoff series against Boston.

Vanek was injured after he was hooked from behind by Boston's Johnny Boychuk during a partial breakaway with under 7 minutes left in the opening period Saturday. After getting off a backhand shot, Vanek and Boychuk both fell and slid into the end boards.

Vanek had difficulty putting weight on his left foot as he attempted to get up. He hobbled to the Sabres bench and then fell to his knees while attempting to get through the gate.

The Sabres had no immediate update on the player's status.
