Buffalo Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges has a lower-body injury but expects to be in the lineup when Buffalo begins their season against the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 8.

"I feel as though I'm ready to play," Gorges said on Friday. "I don't think I'll be playing [in Friday's preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets] but I definitely should be ready for game one [of the regular season]."

Sabres coach Dan Bylsma didn't put a timetable on Gorges' return, but was optimistic.

"Obviously to see him here in his gear and skating is a good thing," he said.

Defenseman Zach Bogosian is week-to-week with a lower body injury, and defenseman Jake McCabe is being evaluated for an upper-body injury.

"[Bogosian] is working out and doing off ice workouts and progressing well. We don't have a time table for him to return to get on the skates," Bylsma said.
