Sabres goalie Neuvirth sustains lower-body injury

by Joe Yerdon

BUFFALO – Buffalo Sabres goalie Michal Neuvirth sustained a lower-body injury Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks and did not return to the game.

Neuvirth was replaced by Jhonas Enroth at the start of the second period. Neuvirth played through the scoreless first period, making 10 saves, but did not return to the bench after intermission.

"We'll have a look at him, but I think it will be a little bit more than day-to-day," Buffalo coach Ted Nolan said. "I don't think he's going to be back in a day or so."

Neuvirth was 3-5-1 with a 2.96 goals-against average and .918 save percentage entering Tuesday.

Arturs Irbe, the Sabres' 47-year-old goaltending coach, dressed as the emergency goalie for the third period. He last played in the NHL in April 2004.

Enroth made 19 saves in the Sabres' 4-1 win.
