Sabres' Enroth receives rare start against Devils

by Mike G. Morreale /

NEWARK, N.J. -- Buffalo Sabres coach Ron Rolston will go with backup goalie Jhonas Enroth between the pipes on Thursday when his team battles the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.

Enroth, who will be making his fourth appearance of the season and first start since Feb. 5 at the Ottawa Senators, will be seeking his first victory of the season. Ryan Miller started the previous 14 games (6-7-1) for Buffalo.

"We are playing things off of Ryan and how he was doing and felt this was a good opportunity to get Jhonas in there," Rolston said after his team's morning skate. "Jhonas has done a good job since I've been here working with Jim Corsi [goalie coach]. Really, for him, practices are his games, and we've had limited practice times, but in those situations he's certainly done a good job for us and merits an opportunity."

Enroth is 1-1-0 in two games against the Devils in his career with a 4.70 goals-against average and .824 save percentage.

"It's important for us to play well in front of Jhonas," Rolston said. "Since I've been here, our job is to make the goaltender's game easier. Whether it's Ryan or Jhonas, we want to do a good job in front of him. We want our goalies to see the pucks and not as many back-door chances. We would certainly like Jhonas to have good game and help him along the way."

Rolston likely will have John Scott in the lineup, alongside rookie center Mikhail Grigorenko and Drew Stafford. Scott, who had been a healthy scratch the previous three games, will replace Jochen Hecht.
