Eichel, the second pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, was making his professional debut. He earned his first point earlier in the period with an assist on Matt Moulson's goal to tie the game 2-2.
Jared Spurgeon gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 13:12 of the first period before Sabres forward Nicolas Deslauriers scored with 1:32 left in the period to tie the game 1-1.
Mikael Granlund scored a power-play goal at 11:04 of the second period to give the Wild a 2-1 lead.
Chad Johnson made 15 saves on 17 shots in two periods for the Sabres; Nathan Lieuwen made three saves on three shots in the third period. Darcy Kuemper played the entire game for the Wild and had 16 saves.
