BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Buffalo Sabres captain Craig Rivet likely will have surgery to repair a nagging left shoulder injury that may force him to miss the start of next season.
General manager Darcy Regier said Thursday the defenseman will get a second medical opinion early next week before deciding whether to have the operation. Regier added that the operation "is likely," and would lead to Rivet missing between four and six months.
Rivet first mentioned the likelihood of an operation a day earlier after cleaning out his locker. The Sabres were eliminated from the playoffs by Boston in their first-round series this week.
Rivet wore a brace while playing with the injury throughout this season.
