Sabres agree to 3-year deal with D Jordan Leopold @NHL

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms with defenseman Jordan Leopold on a three-year contract on the opening day of NHL free agency.

Leopold is a seven-year NHL veteran, who finished last season with Pittsburgh. The deal was announced Thursday after Buffalo lost veteran defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman to free agency.

Tallinder signed with New Jersey, and Lydman reached a deal with Anaheim.

Leopold had a career-best 11 goals and 15 assists last season with the Penguins and Florida Panthers. Pittsburgh acquired Leopold in a trade in March.
