CHICAGO -- Forward Brandon Saad will not play for the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night against the St. Louis Blues at United Center.
The Blackhawks are hoping Saad, who missed a 3-2 overtime loss Tuesday at the Philadelphia Flyers with an undisclosed upper-body injury, could play Friday here against the Carolina Hurricanes.
"See how he is [Thursday]," coach Joel Quenneville said prior to puck drop against St. Louis. "Good chance [he returns] by the weekend. Fingers crossed for Friday."
Saad, who has 19 goals and 25 assists in 68 games, has become a key part of the Blackhawks forwards group at both ends of the ice. He's flexible enough to play either wing and has seen time on each of the top three lines.
Defenseman Michal Rozsival (lower body) will miss the game against the Blues and might miss a couple more.
"[Rozsival is] progressing," Quenneville said. "We’ll see how he is, but he’s out a couple of games here."
Goaltender Corey Crawford will start. Veteran forward Michal Handzus will play in his 1,000th NHL game.
"These numbers, you think more about them after you're done you can reflect on them," Handzus said. "It’s a nice achievement, but right now I’m focusing on the season and the games and what we need to do as a team."
