BRAMPTON, Ont. - Brandon Saad scored four goals and an assist to pace the Saginaw Spirit in a 5-2 win over the Brampton Battalion on Thursday in the Ontario Hockey League.
Saad, who was selected in the second round by the Chicago Blackhawks last June, opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 14:29 of the first period and rounded out the scoring late in regulation.
Saad, who also assisted on a Ryan O'Connor goal, appeared in two games with the Blackhawks early in the campaign before being returned to the junior ranks. O?Connor also had two assists.
"The biggest thing I learned coming back from Chicago was the commitment it takes to win," said Saad who already has six goals and two assists in just three games.
Jake Paterson made 43 saves for Saginaw (3-8-0), who have put consecutive wins together after opening up the year with just one win in their first nine outings.
Matej Machovsky turned aside 20 of the 25 shots. Patrik Machac and Cameron Wind replied for Brampton (5-3-2).
Saginaw went 3-for-6 on the power play while Brampton capitalized on one of six opportunities.
